Mount
de Chantal Visitation Academy formally announces a new program
that will be offered beginning in the fall of 2007. Through a
partnership with Peace Point Equestrian Center, the Mount will
add an equine studies concentration to the school’s pathways
program that allows for personalized curriculum development.
Mount de Chantal also offers concentrations in music, art,
science and social studies.
In addition to completing coursework required for
the Academy's college preparatory diploma, students in the
equine studies concentration will take courses such as equine
husbandry, horsemanship, horse management, and science courses
that affect the care and understanding of horses such as
geology, anatomy and physiology with a focus on equine anatomy.
The equine-specific courses will be taught by Peace Point Center
faculty and will be offered both at Mount de Chantal and at the
Peace Point Center.
At Peace Point, training is offered in all
disciplines (English, Western, Driving, Dressage) and students
have the opportunity to focus on a discipline or to select
activities from several. Peace Point Equestrian Center is a
member of the United States Pony Club (USPC) Riding Center and
students will also have the opportunity to join and participate
in USPC sponsored events. Opportunities to compete through the
Interscholastic Equestrian Association events is also a
possibility for students. With the Center’s proximity to Bethany
College, discussions are ongoing with college officials about
students in the equine concentration participating in "early
entrance" college classes at Bethany. This program will be a
wonderful opportunity for students interested in pursuing equine
or veterinary studies at college to get a jump start on
programming in their high school years.
Mount de Chantal Visitation Academy is an
independent private Catholic school founded in 1848 by the
Sisters of the Visitation. Mount de Chantal provides an
outstanding educational opportunity in a coeducational
environment for Montessori toddler, preschool, kindergarten and
elementary (1st-6th grades) programs. Mount de Chantal’s
rigorous secondary program (7th-12th grades) is the only
all-girls secondary school in the state of West Virginia.
Academic excellence and an emphasis on character, values and
personal responsibility are hallmarks of a Mount de Chantal
education. |
