Mount de Chantal's academic activities are fully
supported by leading-edge technology. The Mount has six computer
labs for student use, including the Miller Technology Lab, an
elementary computer lab, a science lab, a computer repair lab,
the library lab, and a lab in the boarding house. The Miller
Technology Lab is new to the school in the 2005-2006 school year
and is outfitted with 21 state-of-the-art PCs, an audio-visual
system, surround sound, and an overhead projection system. The
science lab incorporates computers and computer-based probes and
monitoring equipment. Mount de Chantal's science faculty couples
these tools with the chemistry, physics, biology, earth sciences
and other science curricula to tie in closely with
textbook lessons, enabling students to receive hands-on training
that significantly enhances their understanding of the world
around us.Mount de Chantal also works
with the
Challenger Learning Center (CLC) and the
Center for
Educational Technologies at Wheeling Jesuit University (CET) using distance learning
technologies that enable our students to take part in e-Missions
to resolve science-based crisis situations. During these
e-Missions, students are linked live to CLC's "flight directors"
and examine real-time data, analyze it, and make their
recommendations to Mission Control. These e-missions take
full advantage of our technology and allow students to
experience the critical thinking, leadership, cooperation, and
problem solving challenges necessary for mission success.
Additionally, each classroom at Mount de
Chantal is outfitted with a computer with high-speed Internet
access through our wired and wireless network. Mount de Chantal
employs a firewall and content filtering to help safeguard our
network and the students using the Mount's computers.
Each room in the boarding house is outfitted
with high-speed Internet access. Boarding students generally
bring their own computers, but a small computer lab is also
maintained in the boarding house for student use. |
