Quick Facts about the Mount
Mount de Chantal Visitation Academy was an
independent Catholic school founded in 1848 by the Sisters of
the Visitation.
The International Center for Leadership in
Education (ICLE) named Mount de Chantal a model school, one
of 45 model schools in the country, and the only school
designated in West Virginia.
The Mount was also a member of the Successful
Practices Network, an organization that provides a mechanism to
allow outstanding schools to share data, experiences, technical
assistance, and best practices with one another.
Since the school's founding in 1848, academic
excellence and an emphasis on character, values, and personal
responsibility were hallmarks of a Mount education.
Mount de Chantal offered a coed environment for
Montessori preschool and kindergarten and the elementary program
(1st - 4th grades). Mount de Chantal's middle (5th - 8th grades)
and secondary (9th -
12th grades) programs were the only all-girls secondary school in the state
of West Virginia.
